Provence, the area in the South of France

Provence, the area in the South of France that enjoys such an easy lifestyle, and is home to so much simple happiness, has delighted anyone coming this way for centuries - right down to van Gogh. Certainly, the towns of Provence, Aix en Provence, Aries and Avignon have a few urban pleasures - shopping, museums, beautiful architecture. To be introduced to the greatest beauty of Provence France, one must travel though the region's rural areas - villages like St-Rémy-de-Provence; this one used to be van Gogh's favorites. Little towns like Roussillon, with their beautiful vineyards, the hills and forests are what make this region what it is.
What are the best must-see spots to hit once you come to the region of Provence? To begin with, the town of Arles in all its picturesque beauty, if it seems like it just came out of a van Gogh painting, it really did. Visitors who come to Provence, France, travel to the town of Arles to feast their eyes on what is certainly one of the prettiest picture book towns on earth. For beauty of a completely different kind, try the mysterious beauty of the lagoons of the Camargue. The pink flamingoes and the white horses are world-famous as symbols of the Camargue. There are other great places of beauty in Provence too - the Lavender Route all the way from the Abbaye de Sénanque to the Drome and the Vaucluse is a beautiful violet flower-filled way that no one should have to miss.
Coming to Provence, France, travel here is often about a healthy dose of beautiful nature. But you also need to experience what the French can do to a simple town, turning it into a wonderland of sorts. Try the Cours Mirabeau neighborhood of the town of Aix-en-Provence. This little town of beautiful plane trees is full of beautiful old French mansions. No one actually lives here - this is where the locals do their business. To look cool while you gape at 18th-century beauty of the architecture, you can take up post at any one of the cafés that line the streets.
The town of Avignon is a beautiful little place with restaurants, bistros and beautiful scenery everywhere. Life here is slow, and every little thing is punctuated with a drink or a little meal at a sidewalk café. It's life the way it's meant to be lived. And finally, any visit to Avignon absolutely has to include the beautiful hilltop garden of Rocher des Doms. The beautiful tropical greenery, the swans in the water, a look over the town of Avignon, its churches, its bridges and the palace, it is all quite a remarkable sight.
